Lutherhostel 2003 Is Success

An enthusiastic group of 68 adults, age 55 and above, participated in LutherHostel 2003, held Oct. 4-7 on the campus of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis. Dr. Paul L. Maier, noted Lutheran scholar and author, was the main presenter for the event. Participants experienced Seminary class instruction and attended presentations by Seminary faculty and local experts on the theme “Light for All Ages.” This year’s attendance was the largest ever for the Seminary’s annual LutherHostel program.

One participant commented, “This was a wonderful experience – very enriching, interesting and enjoyable.” Another said, “Wonderful time. Let’s do it again.”

Dr. Donald Miesner and his wife, Wilma, were hosts for LutherHostel this year. They led evening activities on Saturday and Sunday, and Dr. Miesner led Sunday morning Bible study. Retired from Concordia College, Bronxville, N.Y., he currently serves as a guest professor at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis. The Miesners also led some of the participants on a trip to the Saxon Lutheran historic sites in Perry County, Mo.

Scheduled activities for LutherHostel 2003 began on Saturday evening with a western-style cookout. Additional activities included presentations by Seminary faculty, class visitations, a carillon concert, student-led evening devotions, and visits to Concordia Historical Institute, KFUO Lutheran radio station and the Seminary bookstore. An optional tour of the Lutheran historical sites in Perry County, Mo., took place on Oct. 8, immediately following LutherHostel.

LutherHostel 2004 will take place Oct. 2-5. For more information about LutherHostel 2004, contact the Office of Continuing Education and Parish Services, Concordia Seminary, 801 DeMun Ave., St. Louis, MO 63105; or call (314) 505-7123 or e-mail [email protected].
