175th Anniversary of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis

Save the date! Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, will celebrate its 175th anniversary on Friday, October 10, 2014. The event will kick off with a special chapel service, and there will be food, beverages, live entertainment, special lectures and exhibits, campus tours, and fun for the whole family.

Concordia Seminary was founded in 1839 by German immigrants in Perry County, Missouri; after the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod was formed in the late 1840s, the Seminary was given as a gift to the LCMS and moved to a more central location, which was on South Jefferson in St. Louis. As the city of St. Louis grew, so did the Seminary; it moved to its current 72-acre location in Clayton in 1926.

Since its founding, Concordia Seminary has trained more than 12,000 LCMS church professionals, including pastors, missionaries, deaconesses, scholars, and church leaders. Over the years, the Seminary has started many programs to address the needs of a changing world, including MissionShift, the Center for Hispanic Studies (CHS), the Deaf Institute of Theology, and the Ethnic Institute of Theology (EIIT). Concordia Seminary continues to be dedicated to the theological education of church leaders in a modern world.
