Luther Statue

Located next to Founder's Hall, Luther Statue was originally dedicated at the former site of Concordia Seminary on Jefferson Avenue in St. Louis in 1903. In 1926, when the present campus was dedicated in Clayton, a suburb of St. Louis, the statue was relocated to the new campus site. The statue is an exact replica of one that exists in Worms, Germany. The statue in Germany is located where Luther made his famous speech at the Diet of Worms, "Here I Stand."

In this depiction of Luther, he is holding a Bible, which he translated from the original languages into German, the language of the people. His pointing to the Bible signifies his conviction that all which is believed, taught, and confessed must flow from the Word of God.
