Residential Pastoral Formation

First, on the main part of this page you will find information on the residential formation programs that lead to service as a pastor in The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. Pastoral Formation Programs
The two main routes leading to ordination are the Master of Divinity and the Certificate programs (residential). While the Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degree is the normative route to certification for ordained ministry in congregations and other ministry settings, the Certificate program most closely parallels the M.Div. program. Although the Certificate program itself does not lead to a degree, some students in this program qualify also for admission to the Master of Arts program in the Graduate School.
