Guidelines for Interviewing

  • Ordinarily only those calling entities that are seeking to Call a seminary graduate to a team ministry setting shall be allowed to participate in the interview process.  Exceptions to this guideline (e.g., in the case of specialized ministries) must be approved by the District President, the Chairman of the Placement Committee of the Council of Presidents, and the Director of Placement at the appropriate seminary.  The District President will be responsible for contacting the Chairman of the Placement Committee and the Director of Placement to discuss any potential exceptions to this guideline.
  • Those calling entities desiring to interview potential candidates shall make their request to their respective District President.
  • If the District President concurs with the request to interview, he will communicate his approval, in writing, to the Placement Director of the seminary.
  • The District President will provide the congregation with a letter outlining the call process, which will include a request for a thumb-nail sketch of the congregation’s ministry, and a job description.  He will also send a “Congregational Profile Form.”  Upon completion, these documents are to be returned to the District President for his approval. He will then forward them to the Placement Directors at both seminaries.  The seminary placement directors will then be in contact with the pastor or contact person.
  • The calling entity may request permission to interview specific candidates of whom they are aware and/or the District President may suggest specific candidates for interview consideration.
  • The Placement Director is also free, at his discretion and in his prayerful judgment, to identify potential candidates for the calling entity to interview.
  • All arrangements for interviews shall be made through the appropriate Placement Directors.
  • All interviews shall be conducted on the seminary campus or via teleconferencing.
  • No audio or video taping of interviews is allowed.
  • Following the interviewing of candidates, the calling entity needs to decide whether to:
    • submit a designated and exclusive Call for one or more of the candidates interviewed
    • submit a designated, but not exclusive, Call for one or more of the candidates interviewed
    • submit an undesignated Call for a seminary graduate
    • not submit a Call for a seminary graduate.
  • Ordinarily, the entire interview process, which preferably begins in the late Fall for Spring Placement, will be concluded prior to March 1.  Interviewing of graduates for Fall and Winter Placement will be completed by the deadline for submitting an application for a graduate at the respective placement.
