Dr. Jeffrey Oschwald is associate professor of exegetical theology and chairman of the exegetical theology department.
Oschwald has been a member of the Concordia Seminary, St. Louis faculty since 2002. He was named the exegetical department chairman in 2015. He also served as coordinator of the international seminary exchange program from 2009 to 2015.
His areas of interest and expertise include the books of Luke and Acts, the history of exegesis, hermeneutics, Origen of Alexandria and patristics.
Before coming to the Seminary, Oschwald served as pastor of New Hope Lutheran Church in Ossian, Ind., from 1988 to 1991, and as associate professor at China Lutheran Seminary in Hsinchu, Taiwan, from 1994 to 2002. Since 2013 he has been serving China Lutheran Seminary on a part-time basis as dean of the Master of Theology in Luther Studies program.
He received his Master of Divinity from Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Ind. (1983). He also holds an associate’s degree from Saint John’s College, Winfield, Kan. (1977); a bachelor’s degree from Concordia College, Ann Arbor, Mich. (1979); and a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from the University of Notre Dame, South Bend, Ind. (1987, 1993).
Oschwald and his wife, Jill, have two daughters, Heather and Kirsten; a son, Peter; and three grandchildren.
