Rev. Dr. Jeffrey A. Oschwald

Professor of Exegetical Theology, Exegetical Theology

Dr. Jeffrey Oschwald is professor of Exegetical Theology at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis.

Oschwald has been a faculty member since 2002. He previously served as the chairman of the department of Exegetical Theology (2015–20) and as coordinator of the International Seminary Exchange Programs (2009–15).

His areas of interest and expertise include the books of Luke and Acts, the history of exegesis, hermeneutics, Origen of Alexandria and patristics.

Before coming to the Seminary, Oschwald served as pastor of New Hope Lutheran Church in Ossian, Ind. (1988–91), and as associate professor at China Lutheran Seminary in Hsinchu, Taiwan (1994–2002). From 2013 until 2017, Oschwald provided additional assistance to China Lutheran Seminary by serving as dean of the Master of Theology in its Luther Studies program.

He received his Master of Divinity (M.Div.) from Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Ind. (1983). He also holds an Associate of Arts (A.A.) from St. John’s College, Winfield, Kan. (1977); a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) from Concordia College, Ann Arbor, Mich. (now Concordia University, Ann Arbor) (1979); and a Master of Arts (M.A.) and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) from the University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, Ind. (1987, 1993).

Oschwald and his wife, Jill, have two daughters, Heather and Kirsten; a son, Peter; and 10 grandchildren.
