Registration Still Possible for Shepherds of God's Flock Retreat

The third annual “Shepherds of God’s Flock” retreat for prospective Seminary students and their guests to be held Jan. 4-6, 2001 on the Concordia Seminary, St. Louis campus has received an overwhelming response. More than 50 have registered thus far, including more than 33 prospective students from all parts of the country. As a result, the registration deadline has been extended.

“We will continue to process registrations,” commented Rev. Jeffery Moore, director of ministerial recruitment at Concordia Seminary. “It is obvious that this retreat has been well received by those who are contemplating the pastoral ministry. We want to make sure that as many prospective students as possible have the opportunity to benefit from this wonderful opportunity to study God’s Word, the Lutheran Confessions and hear from pastors concerning the pastoral ministry. I would ask, however, that those who are planning to register contact our office as soon as possible. We are closed over the Christmas break and would prefer to have everyone registered prior to Christmas.”

The Shepherds of God’s Flock retreat is designed for men college age and older who are contemplating preparation for the pastoral ministry and their guests. The retreat emphasizes the spiritual and personal aspects of the decision-making process prospective students go through in deciding whether or not to begin Seminary preparation. While on campus, participants will study the Scriptures and Lutheran Confessions concerning the pastoral ministry. Pastors, missionaries and chaplains will speak about the joys and challenges of their service. Participants will be able to talk with other retreat guests from around the country who are contemplating such service, worship with the Seminary community in daily chapel services, talk with current students and attend Seminary classes.

Suggestions from past participants have led to additional sessions on Saturday, Jan. 6, to cover the logistical factors related to Seminary enrollment, such as financial aid, housing and the admission process.

The presenters at the retreat will address the questions that many prospective students ask: “How can I know for sure whether or not I should be a pastor?” “What does the Bible say about being a pastor?” “What do the Lutheran Confessions say?” “What does a pastor, missionary or chaplain do?” The students, faculty and staff of Concordia Seminary invite men who have asked these questions to explore them in the relaxed atmosphere of the Seminary campus.

Wives, fiancees and girlfriends of those considering Seminary preparation also are encouraged to attend. If enough women register, special sessions for women will be offered.

Dress is casual for all activities, and there is no charge to attend. All meals and on-campus lodging are provided free of charge. Travel assistance is also available. Transportation to Concordia Seminary from the airport, bus or train station, and return transportation is provided free of charge as needed.

Those interested in registering may contact the Admissions Office of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis at 801 DeMun Avenue, St. Louis, MO 63105; 1.800.822.9545; [email protected] [1].
