Dr. Bruce M. Hartung Installed at Concordia Seminary

Dr. Bruce M. Hartung was installed as associate professor of practical theology and director of continuing education at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, on Dec. 18. The installation took place during the morning chapel service in the Seminary’s Chapel of St. Timothy and St. Titus. Hartung previously served as the executive director of the Commission on Ministerial Growth and Support of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod.

“Dr. Hartung brings a wealth of background in pastoral care and counseling, including extensive service to our church in areas of ministerial health and continuing education,” Dr. Andrew Bartelt, vice president for academic affairs at Concordia Seminary, commented after the installation. “We look forward to his leadership in extending the work of Concordia Seminary through our continuing education programs throughout the church.

Hartung received the B.A. degree from Concordia Senior College, Fort Wayne, Ind., in 1963; the M.Div. (1967) and S.T.M. (1969) degrees from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Mo.; and the Ph.D. degree from Northwestern University, Evanston, Ill., in 1971. He is also a licensed clinical psychologist for the State of Illinois and a diplomate for the American Association of Pastoral Counselors. His previous positions have included that of executive director of the Onondaga Pastoral Counseling Center, Syracuse, N.Y., and director of the Pastoral Counseling Center of Lutheran General Hospital, Park Ridge, Ill. His wife, Judy, is past president of the Seminary Guild. Hartung officially began his duties on Dec. 1.
