Dr. John F. Johnson, president of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, has announced that Mark D. Hofman has accepted an appointment to serve as the Seminary’s vice president for development. Hofman’s new responsibilities include oversight of the Seminary’s development division and service on the President’s Cabinet.
Hofman succeeds Leonard Fiedler, who accepted a call in August to serve as senior vice president for ministry resource development for The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod Foundation. Since Fiedler’s departure, Hofman has been serving as the Seminary’s interim vice president for development.
“I consider it a privilege and an honor to be asked to lead a very dedicated and talented team of development professionals as this Seminary enters a new era,” commented Hofman. “God is blessing Concordia Seminary with a multitude of exciting opportunities and challenges. I look forward to leading efforts that encourage God’s people to invest personally and corporately in the support and formation of future pastors, missionaries and other servants of the church.”
Hofman joined the Concordia Seminary staff in August of 1995 and served as development officer until 2000, when he was promoted to director of development. Since 2002, he has served as senior director of development.
Hofman holds a bachelor of science degree in secondary education (1987) and the Lutheran Teaching Diploma (1993) from Concordia College (now University), Seward, Neb. He served as admissions counselor (1987-1990) and assistant director of admissions (1992-1993) at Concordia College, Seward. He served as assistant principal/teacher at Lutheran High School in New Orleans, La. (1993-1994), and as a classroom teacher at Word of Life Lutheran School in St. Louis, Mo. (1994-1995).
He is a volunteer leader for the Greater St. Louis Council of Boys Scouts of America, holds professional membership in the Association of Lutheran Development Executives and holds the Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) credential. He is married to Rachel, a Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod elementary school teacher in the St. Louis area.
