Concordia Seminary to Host Bonhoeffer Conference

Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, will host the conference “Will the Real Dietrich Bonhoeffer Please Stand Up?” on July 19-21, 2006. The conference is sponsored jointly by Concordia Seminary and the Dietrich Bonhoeffer Centennial Committee.

A widely admired and respected Christian theologian, Dietrich Bonhoeffer is perhaps the most important Lutheran theologian since Martin Luther. His appeal spans a variety of Christian denominations and perspectives. Bonhoeffer’s life, thought, theology and the contributions he can make to the 21st century church will be discussed by nationally and internationally recognized experts on Bonhoeffer, including Lutherans and members of other Christian church bodies.

Presenters for the conference are H. Gaylon Barker, parish pastor, adjunct professor at Molloy College, member of the board of the International Bonhoeffer Society and the editorial board of Dietrich Bonhoeffer Works English Language Edition; Charles Ford, professor of mathematics and computer science at St. Louis University, St. Louis; C. Christopher Hook, professor of medicine at the Mayo Medical School; Craig Slane, associate professor of systematic theology at Simpson University, Redding, Calif.; and Jonathan Sorum, theological professor at Comenius University, Bratislava, Slovakia.

Respondents are Eric Andræ, campus minister at First Trinity Lutheran Church, Pittsburgh, Pa., and Robert Weise, professor of practical theology and The Lutheran Foundation of St. Louis Chair in Pastoral Ministry and the Life Sciences at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis.
