Concordia Seminary Announces Winter Lay Bible Institute

Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, will host its winter 2008 Lay Bible Institute from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday evenings, Jan. 9, 16, 23, 30, 2008, in Sieck Hall on the Seminary campus. “Paul through the Ages: A Look at the Message of Galatians in the History of the Church” will be presented by Prof. Dr. Erik Herrmann, assistant professor of historical theology at Concordia Seminary.

In this Lay Bible Institute offering, participants will discover how figures like Augustine, Jerome, Thomas Aquinas, Luther and others interpreted Paul’s teaching on the Law and the Gospel. They will study various interpretations throughout church history in order to understand how the events and needs of the day influenced the reading and use of Paul’s letter to the Galatians—all with the larger goal of gaining a greater appreciation of its message today.

Herrmann has served on the Seminary faculty since 2005. Previously, he served as assistant pastor of Timothy Lutheran Church, St. Louis, Missouri (2004). He received the B.A. degree (1995) from Concordia University Wisconsin, and the M.Div. degree (2000) and the Ph.D. degree (2005) from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis.

To register for the Lay Bible Institute, please call 314-505-7123 between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, or e-mail [email protected] [1]. The cost is $25 per person and includes all handouts and refreshments. Concordia Seminary is located at 801 Seminary Place, in Clayton, Mo.
