Concordia Seminary celebrates 177th academic year with opening service

Concordia Seminary, St. Louis invites the public to share in the excitement of the beginning of the 177th academic year [1] at an opening worship service Friday, Sept. 4, 2015, at 10 a.m. Also during the service, eight faculty members will be installed and vicars from the Specific Ministry Pastor program will receive their assignments.

Faculty members and students from various academic programs will assist with the service, and Seminary President Dr. Dale A. Meyer [2] will deliver the sermon: “Word Alive! Connections and Conversations.” Meyer will also introduce the new theme for the academic year: “Living and Active!”

“This school year I will be telling new seminarians, continuing students and anyone who will hear me, that the Word of God is not simply a book to be read for some nice religious information,” said Meyer. “The Holy Scriptures are to be heard, memorized and taken into our hearts. The pastors, missionaries and deaconesses we are preparing will proclaim the living and active Word of God to the world.”

This event is free and open to the public and will take place in the Chapel of St. Timothy and St. Titus at Concordia Seminary, 801 Seminary Place, St. Louis, Missouri, 63105.

Those who can’t attend may watch the livestream at www.csl.edu/orientation [3]. Join the conversation on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram using hashtags #openingservice and #living&active.
