‘The First Rosa: Teacher, Confessor, Church Planter’ screening set for Nov. 6

It’s time to bring to light the untold story of Lutheran educator and church planter Rosa J. Young. There was another Rosa, but Rosa Young was first. Rosa Parks started a civil rights revolution; Rosa Young started a spiritual revolution.

A free screening of “The First Rosa: Teacher, Confessor, Church Planter” — a film about Rosa Young — will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, in Werner Auditorium on the campus of Concordia Seminary [1], 801 Seminary Place, Clayton, Mo. A reception will follow the screening. Also, the Concordia Historical Institute [2] will have some Young items on display.

The 42-minute film tells the story of Young, a famed Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) educator and missionary. The film is free but seating in Werner Auditorium is limited. Please reserve your ticket via email here [3].

Born to an ordinary life in an ordinary town in rural Alabama, Young was anything but ordinary.

With a passion for helping others, educating children and sharing the Gospel, Young accomplished extraordinary things for her community and the kingdom of God. She was instrumental in founding and promoting 30 Lutheran elementary schools and 35 Lutheran congregations in Alabama’s “Black Belt.” Her legacy is unparalleled as an educator, confessor and church planter for Christ and His Church.

The LCMS produced “The First Rosa” to enlighten the world about Young’s remarkable history. The film is being shown at various sites this year before its 2016 official release. For a schedule of other locations and dates, or for more information about the film, visit www.lcms.org/thefirstrosa [4].
