St. Baldrick’s head-shaving event raises funds, awareness for cancer research

Twenty-two faculty, staff, students and friends of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis volunteered to have their heads shaved Feb. 6 during the St. Baldrick’s Foundation [1] event held in the Pederson Field House on campus.

Participating “shavees” raised $7,607 to support the foundation’s mission to find a cure for childhood cancers.

St. Baldrick’s head-shaving events give participants the opportunity to stand in solidarity with children who are fighting cancer. One stylist from Great Clips in Affton, Mo., shaved heads on-site for the ninth year in a row, and a fourth-year student assisted.

“From servant events in the Greater Saint Louis area during Orientation week to our annual St. Baldrick’s head-shaving event, our Seminary community strives to care for the needs of our neighbors,” said Director of Ministerial Recruitment and Admissions Rev. Bill Wrede, the event’s site coordinator. “Our students, faculty and staff are thrilled to participate in the mission of the St. Baldrick’s Foundation. We are thankful for everyone who participated and everyone who contributed to this worthy cause.”

It’s not too late to support the Seminary’s efforts. Individuals, businesses, foundations and organizations can still make a donation [2].

Since partnering with St. Baldrick’s in 2012, Concordia Seminary has raised more than $84,000 for the foundation thanks to the volunteers who forego their hair in support of this worthwhile cause. To learn more about this event, visit stbaldricks.org [3]
