Filmmakers from around the world are invited to participate in Concordia Seminary, St. Louis’ second annual short film competition [2] leading up to its Faith and Film Festival [1] in January 2023 on the Seminary’s campus.

This year’s theme is “Faith.” Submissions may take any genre or style, such as narrative, experimental, animation or documentary.

Amateur filmmakers age 18 and older are eligible to participate. The deadline for submission of films is Oct. 15. The fee for each submission is $25. Four films will be selected as finalists and will be screened during the festival, which will take place Jan. 26-28, 2023. Finalists will be notified by Dec. 15.

A panel of film critics, producers, scholars and professors will judge the films based on technique, storytelling and representation of the theme. All four finalists will receive a Faith and Film Festival pass.

“Our first short film contest last year was unbelievable with more than 1,200 submissions from all over the world,” said Director of Continuing Education Erika Bennett. “I am excited to see how our second contest goes with the theme of ‘Faith.’ This contest, and our annual festival, provide a wonderful opportunity to explore the intersection of faith and film, and to consider ways to engage the world with discussions about Christ and other connections to Christianity in movies.”
