“Under the Fig Tree,” a podcast hosted by Concordia Seminary, St. Louis’ Director of Recruitment Rev. Micah Glenn [1] and Associate Provost Dr. Benjamin Haupt [2], is now also available as a video podcast. The first video podcast will debut at 3 p.m. (CT) Monday, Oct. 3, on the Seminary’s YouTube channel [3]. The 2-year-old audio podcast also will resume Monday and will be available on most major streaming services.
New video and audio episodes will be added weekly each Monday.
“The video podcast offers an invitation for our listeners to ‘come into the studio’ as we continue to explore the vocation of pastoral and diaconal ministry,” Glenn said. “We’ll wrestle with questions our listeners have, dig into Scripture, and help them contemplate and discern whether a future in ministry is right for them.”
In addition, Glenn and Haupt will share their own ministry journeys to the Seminary and even delve into some personal interests! Future episodes will feature guests who share insights about their own Seminary experiences and perspectives on pastoral and diaconal ministry.
“The program’s name comes from the scene in John’s Gospel when Jesus says to Nathanael that he saw him ‘under the fig tree,’” Haupt said. “Nathanael was there waiting for the promised Messiah. It struck us that here’s a great description for the person contemplating a life in pastoral or diaconal ministry — waiting under the fig tree with all eyes on Jesus.”
