Summer carillon concert series set for Tuesdays in June

Music lovers of all ages should mark their calendars for the annual Summer Carillon Series slated for 7 p.m. CDT every Tuesday in June on campus. The outdoor performances are part of the 2022-23 Concordia Seminary Concert Series and are free and open to the public.

The carillon [1] at Concordia Seminary is one of only 170 such instruments in North America. The 49 bells have been played atop Luther Tower since 1971 and are dedicated to all pastors who have served The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS). [2] It is housed in Luther Tower, the 120-foot structure designed by architect Charles Klauder and dedicated in 1966.

“Each summer, these concerts bring music and joy to our Seminary community and our surrounding neighborhood,” said Dr. Jon Vieker [3], dean of chapel at the Seminary. “We are pleased to continue our series this year with carillonneurs from across the world, and we know that their music will be a blessing to all who come to experience it.”

Concerts will be held on the following dates:

Tuesday, June 6, 7 p.m. [4]Linda Dzuris, Clemson, S.C., carillonneur
Tuesday, June 13, 7 p.m. [5]Joseph Min, New York City, N.Y., carillonneur
Tuesday, June 20, 7 p.m. [6]Christine Cao, St. Louis, Mo., carillonneur
Tuesday, June 27, 7 p.m. [7]Roy Kroezen, Centralia, Ill., carillonneur

Guests are invited to bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnic dinners, and enjoy the music from the Main Quadrangle or on the Seminary grounds near Luther Statue. In the event of rain, guests may gather under the archways and tower on campus – the concert will continue unless the carillonneur feels it is unsafe.

The Concordia Seminary Concert Series celebrates and proclaims faith through the gift of music, featuring Seminary choirs and musicians, as well as visiting chorale groups and performers of the highest acclaim. Find season dates and details at csl.edu/concert-series [8].
