Spanish-language theological resources see global surge in digital engagement

Free, confessional Lutheran Spanish-language resources are in high demand globally, as evidenced by 48,000 downloads, as of August 2025, of the Recursos en español [1] digital collection on the Scholar institutional repository [1] managed by the Kristine Kay Hasse Memorial Library [2] at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis. The collection, which continues to grow, offers theological articles, Bible studies, course content and liturgical materials aimed at serving Spanish-speaking church leaders, students and congregations around the world.

The project has been made possible through the contributions of several Seminary scholars and staff. Dr. Leopoldo Sánchez M., [3] professor of Systematic Theology and the Werner R.H. Krause Professor of Hispanic Ministries, led the effort alongside Dr. Ely Prieto [4], associate professor of Practical Theology and Director of the Center for Hispanic Studies.

“As a center of formation and learning, Concordia Seminary and its Center for Hispanic Studies are blessed to serve the church at large as a curator of historically significant resources from the Hispanic/Latino world for theological consultation and growth,” said Sánchez. “This collection makes accessible materials that are otherwise difficult to find in one place.”

Prieto added, “The Recursos en español digital collection is a tremendous blessing for Spanish speakers, including pastors, missionaries and scholars, not just in the U.S. but worldwide. God continues to provide, and we give thanks for His faithfulness to the Spanish-speaking church around the globe.”

A highlight of the collection is the digitized archive of Noticiero de la fe [5],” a Lutheran Latin American theological periodical published between 1935-73. The archive preserves a rich history of theological discourse and ministry developments throughout Latin America.

The Recursos en español collection can be explored at scholar.csl.edu/recursos [6].
