‘Old School Showdown’ alumni basketball

It is an “Old School Showdown” as Concordia Seminary, St. Louis Preachers basketball players take on Seminary alumni during the annual alumni basketball games [1] Friday, Feb. 6, 2026, at 6 and 8 p.m.

The free alumni basketball games will be held in the Pederson Field House on the Concordia Seminary campus. A special freewill offering will be collected during the alumni games to provide assistance to Bethlehem Lutheran Church [2], St. Louis, Mo., for their “90 days for 80 kids” program. Bethlehem Lutheran is helping to provide a safe Christ-centered place for children as their families await child-care subsidies to process after last spring’s devastating tornado.

“Concordia Seminary is more than the students, staff and faculty who currently study and serve here. It includes alumni, congregations, pastors and church workers who care deeply about Jesus and the mission He has given us. We are at our best when we work together for the sake of the Gospel,” said Dr. Peter Nafzger [3], coach of the basketball Preachers, director of student life and associate professor of Practical Theology.

“This makes alumni gatherings important. Like family reunions, they are times to come together and remember, give thanks, listen, laugh and share our burdens. They say that families who pray together stay together. It’s also the case that families who play together — especially at Pederson Field House — stay together!”

Alumni who are interest in playing should sign up by Jan. 31. Questions should be directed to Director of Alumni Relations Melodie Bostic at 314-505-7626 or [email protected] [4].
