SUMMARY:Summer Carillon Concert
DESCRIPTION:About the carillonneur\nMonika Kaźmierczak is a city carillonneur of Gdańsk\, Poland. She is a graduate of the Academy of Music in Gdańsk and the Netherlands Carillon School in Amersfoort\, where she studied with Arie Abbenes and Bernard Winsemius. During her studies\, she received several scholarships\, including the Mayor of Gdansk’s scholarship for the best student in the department (2002) and the Huyghens scholarship from the Dutch government (2003-4). In 2007\, thanks to a cultural scholarship from the City of Gdańsk\, she took master classes from Geert D’Hollander in Belgium. Kaźmierczak teaches carillon and other subjects at the Music Academy in Gdansk. She is a laureate of several international carillon competitions and a finalist of the 2008 Queen Fabiola competition. As a performer\, she is internationally in demand\, playing concerts across Europe and the United States. She has collaborated on creative projects such as performing solo recitals for the acclaimed early music festival Actus Humanus in Gdańsk. Kaźmierczak is the founder and director of ongoing musical initiatives such as the Gdańsk Carillon Festival. Since 2012\, she has held a Doctor of Arts degree\, specialized in carillon playing. She also conducted the Gdansk Burghers’ Choir (Chór Mieszczan Gdańskich) for 11 years and was a president of the Polish Carillon Society. In 2021\, she was awarded the highest cultural prize in her city: Splendor Gedanensis. \nFeaturing national and international carillonneurs\, the annual Summer Carillon Concerts are held at 7 p.m. Tuesdays in June. Guests are invited to bring lawn chairs\, blankets and picnics and enjoy the music from the Main Quadrangle or on the Seminary grounds near Luther Statue. In the event of rain\, guests may gather under the archways and tower on campus. \nThe carillon at Concordia Seminary is one of only 170 such instruments in North America. SUMMARY:Summer Carillon Concert
DESCRIPTION:About the carillonneur\nKarel Keldermans is one of the preeminent carillonneurs in North America and a carillonneur for Concordia Seminary since 2000. He retired in 2012 from the position of full-time carillonneur for the Springfield\, Ill.\, Park District\, where he also served as the director of the renowned International Carillon Festival for 36 years. He has given carillon concerts around the world for the past 40 years. He has released six solo carillon CDs and one of carillon and guitar duets with Belgian guitarist Wim Brioen. For 12 years\, Keldermans\, along with his wife\, Linda\, co-owned American Carillon Music Editions\, the largest publisher of new music for the carillon in the world. Together they wrote the book\, Carillon: The Evolution of a Concert Instrument in North America (Springfield Park District\, 1996)\, and in 1998\, they were honored jointly with the Berkeley Medal for “distinguished service to the carillon art.” Keldermans was president of the Guild of Carillonneurs in North America for five years and served on the Board of Directors for nine years. Keldermans studied carillon with Piet van den Broek at the Royal Carillon School in Mechelen\, Belgium\, from which he graduated “with great distinction.” He also did postgraduate study with Peter Bakker at the Netherlands Carillon School in Amersfoort. He has a master’s degree in carillon performance and campanology from the University of Illinois\, Urbana-Champaign\, Ill. \nFeaturing national and international carillonneurs\, the annual Summer Carillon Concerts are held at 7 p.m. Tuesdays in June. After graduation\, he was awarded the Prix d’ Excellence and was asked to serve as carillon instructor at the school. He is emeritus city carillonneur for both Haarlem and Amsterdam. In addition\, Winsemius studied the organ at the Amsterdam Conservatory and has been organist of the historic organs of the Nieuwe Kerk in Amsterdam since 1981. SUMMARY:Summer Carillon Concert
DESCRIPTION:About the carillonneur\nRoy Kroezen\, who was born in Enschede\, the Netherlands\, was appointed carillonneur of the Centralia Carillon in Centralia\, Ill.\, in 2016. Since 2020\, he has served as the organist at St. Mary Catholic Church in Centralia and the Fox Theatre in St. Louis. He studied organ at the Music Conservatory in Arnhem\, and he studied carillon at the Netherlands Carillon School in Amersfoort\, the Netherlands\, and at the Royal Carillon School Jef Denijn and the Lemmens Institute\, both in Belgium. He holds a master’s degree in carillon and in organ and choir conducting. In the Netherlands\, he served as a municipal carillonneur in Zwolle\, Hoogeveen\, Arnhem and Huissen. For 22 years he served as organist in Hilversum at the Apostolic Society and Catholic churches in Hoogland\, Amersfoort and Beesd. He was chairman of the Music Committee of the Netherlands Carillon Association (NKV). He teaches carillon and organ and arranges music for the carillon. He has played numerous organ and carillon recitals in the United States\, Europe and the island of Curaçao. In 2002 he held six concerts a day for nine weeks on the island of Kyushu in Japan in Huis ten Bosch\, a Dutch-style family park. Kroezen has won prizes at several international carillon contests. Together with the Zwolse Beiaard Stichting (Zwolle Carillon Foundation)\, he organized two contests for carillon duet and a carillon composition contest\, held in Zwolle\, the Netherlands. \nFeaturing national and international carillonneurs\, the annual Summer Carillon Concerts are held at 7 p.m. Tuesdays in June.
