SUMMARY:Prof Insights: Faculty-Led Workshop – Professor Peter in York\, NE
DESCRIPTION:Decoding the Apocalypse: Study of the Book of Revelation\nThe title of the last book of the Bible is translated as “Revelation\,” but its original title was “Apocalypse.” This word literally means “the unveiling.” The purpose of this book of the Bible is to unveil the purposes of God in human history. For many people\, however\, it remains veiled — an obscure\, mysterious and confusing book. A reason many people do not understand the Apocalypse is that it is written in coded language that can only be interpreted by decoding its symbolism. This study will look at the most significant coded symbols of the book and the keys to their interpretation\, providing a broad sweep of the major themes and message of Revelation so participants can better understand this book of the Bible. This “unveiling” will enable you to see Christ\, His church and history (past\, present and future) in a whole new light. \n\n\n\n\nDr. David Peter\nProfessor of Practical Theology\, Dean of Faculty and Alumni Relations Adviser at Concordia Seminary\, St. Louis\nDr. David Peter has led well-received lay studies on the book of Revelation and also has recently published a book on leading mid-sized congregations\, Maximizing the Midsize Church: Effective for Leadership for Fruitful Mission and Ministry (CPH). Those who know him recognize that he brings a solid theological understanding of the church to the topic as well as an openness to how we live out our Lutheran ecclesiology in the world today. \n\n\n	\n\n\n\n\nSchedule\n\n\nDAY\nTIME\n\n\nMonday\, July 8\n1-4 p.m.\n\n\nTuesday\, July 9\n9-11:30 a.m.\n\n\n\n1-4 p.m.\n\n\nWednesday\, July 10\n9 a.m.-noon\n\n\n\n\n	Registration cost: $150\n	Registration deadline: June 24\, 2024\n	Location contact: Rev. SUMMARY:Prof Insights: Faculty-Led Workshop – Professor Golden in Santa Fe\, NM
DESCRIPTION:What Can Eighth Century B.C. Prophets Teach the 21st Century?\nSeparated by nearly three millennia and significant cultural differences\, the great prophets of the eighth century B.C. — Isaiah\, Micah\, Amos\, Hosea and Jonah — can seem a world apart. Yet the Spirit remains active in the word they delivered that we would be strengthened in the faith. We will consider the eighth century B.C. prophets in their original context\, compare that context to our own and apply the word of the Lord that they delivered afresh to our own day. \n\n\n\n\nDr. Kevin Golden\nAssociate Professor of Exegetical Theology and Dean of the Theological Research and Publication at Concordia Seminary\, St. Louis\nDr. Kevin Golden is associate professor of Exegetical Theology and dean of Theological Research and Publication at Concordia Seminary\, St. Louis. SUMMARY:Prof Insights: Faculty-Led Workshop – Professor Lessing in West Fargo\, ND
DESCRIPTION:In the Beginning: Studies in Genesis\nWho hasn’t had questions about creation\, humanity’s fall into sin\, the first promise of a Savior\, Noah’s flood\, and the entity Jacob wrestled with all night? And then there’s Joseph’s story. It takes up the book’s last 14 chapters. What’s that all about? This workshop — based\, in part\, upon the presenter’s forthcoming Concordia Publishing House (CPH) commentary on Genesis 12–36 — will help you know Genesis better. In doing so\, it also will help you know Jesus better. \n\n\n\n\nDr. Reed Lessing\nProfessor of Theology and Ministry and Director of the Center for Biblical Studies at Concordia University\, Saint Paul\, Minn.\nDr. Reed Lessing is a professor of theology and ministry and director of the Center for Biblical Studies at Concordia University\, Saint Paul\, Minn. He has served as a seminary professor and parish pastor\, combining both vocations in his presentations and writings. Reed has authored several commentaries for Concordia Publishing House — all on Old Testament prophets. \n\n\n	\n\n\n\n\nSchedule\n\n\nDAY\nTIME\n\n\nMonday\, July 15\n1-4 p.m.\n\n\nTuesday\, July 16\n9-11:30 a.m.\n\n\n\n1-4 p.m.\n\n\nWednesday\, July 17\n9 a.m.-noon\n\n\n\n\n	Registration cost: $150\n	Registration deadline: July 1\, 2024\n	Location contact: Rev. SUMMARY:Prof Insights: Faculty-Led Workshop – Professor Golden in Springfield\, MO
DESCRIPTION:It Stands Written: The New Testament Appropriation of the Old Testament\nChrist and the apostles regularly ground their teaching upon the Word of the Lord given through Moses and the prophets. While the fulfillment of prophecy is regularly cited in the New Testament\, that is not the only dynamic. At times\, the language of Old Testament texts is significantly transformed in New Testament texts. Then\, there are allusions and echoes of Old Testament texts within the New Testament that stop short of direction quotation yet build on the prior text. During this workshop\, participants will explore the various dynamics of the New Testament’s use of the Old Testament\, consider the Christological significance of those dynamics and reflect on how the interpretive practice can reflect those dynamics. \n\n\n\n\nDr. Kevin Golden\nAssociate Professor of Exegetical Theology and Dean of Theological Research and Publication at Concordia Seminary\, St. Louis\nDr. Kevin Golden is associate professor of Exegetical Theology and dean of Theological Research and Publication at Concordia Seminary\, St. Louis.
