DESCRIPTION:Life and Death: A Confessional Framework for Pastoral Bioethics\nBioethical dilemmas present complex challenges for pastors and other church leaders\, requiring a response grounded in Scripture. To help equip them to navigate these critical issues\, Concordia Seminary\, St. Louis (CSL) and Concordia University Wisconsin\, Mequon\, Wis. (CUW) are offering a six-week virtual continuing education course\, “Life and Death: A Confessional Framework for Pastoral Bioethics.” This course will cover essential bioethical topics\, such as gender dysphoria\, abortion\, physician-assisted suicide and more\, all viewed through a biblical lens. \nThe course will be taught via Zoom from 4-5:15 p.m. (CT) Tuesdays\, April 29 through June 3\, 2025. DESCRIPTION:2025 Multi Asian Gathering\nMay 7-8\, 2025\nThe Multi Asian Gathering is a mission movement of Asian leaders (clergy and laity) to celebrate our unity and uniqueness in mission and ministry in The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS). \nThe purpose of the Multi Asian Gathering is to bring together Asian leaders from diverse Asian backgrounds\, ethnicities and cultures in order to address common mission and ministry topics we face such as next-generation ministry\, leadership development\, theological education\, church planting\, discipleship\, colloquy programs and cross-cultural missions. We desire to network and form meaningful relationships with all cultures and expand our interaction with LCMS leaders and entities. \nThe Multi Asian Gathering committee is offering a limited number of grants to partially offset the registration fees and/or campus housing costs for the Multiethnic Symposium and the Multi Asian Gathering. DESCRIPTION:An Introduction to Athanasius\nThis workshop offers a detailed study of Athanasius’ major works as primary texts in the interest of gaining an understanding of Athanasius’ Trinitarian theology\, his Christology as evidenced in his “On the Incarnation\,” as well as his writings against the Arians. The course will also engage his pastoral concerns through writings such as\, “The Life of Anthony” which will help\, along with his other writings\, in assessing Athanasius’ continuing relevance for the church today as a pastor and theologian. There will be lectures as well robust class discussion. Students will be responsible for reading some of the texts ahead of time in preparation for class discussion. \nParticipants should read “On the Incarnation” and “The Life of Anthony” by  Athanasius\, as well as the following: \n\n\nAnatolios\, Khaled. “Athanasius.” New York: Routledge\, 2004\nBehr\, John\, trans. “St. Athanasius the Great of Alexandria: On the Incarnation.” Greek original and English Translation. Mahwah\, NJ: Paulist Press\, 1980\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDr. Joel Elowsky\nProfessor of Historical Theology\, Dean of Advanced Studies\, Director of the Center for the Study of Early Christian Texts and Frank and Valerie Fuerst Professor of Historical Theology at Concordia Seminary\, St. Louis\nDr. Joel Elowsky has cultivated relationships across the Christian spectrum as a result of his years of work with Dr. Thomas Oden and the Early Christian Commentary Series. In that work he has  helped today’s church appropriate its ancient heritage that served as a foundation for Reformation theology.
