Stephen Starke, esteemed Lutheran hymnwriter of more than 200 hymn texts. Registration is $15 for the general public and free for Concordia Seminary students and spouses. Then, join us at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 6, for our Epiphany Hymn Festival, featuring Starke, the St. Louis Lutheran Chorale and the Concordia Seminary String Ensemble! It may be -5 degrees in Fargo, but the LCMS North Dakota District convention is well underway and the Seminary is delighted to be in attendance! Dr. Jon Vieker, associate professor of Practical Theology and the dean of Chapel, presented the first part of an essay on "Hymnody" earlier today, and Kathy Luther, executive director of Seminary Support, is ready to answer questions and share Seminary information to all who stop by! The Seminary looks forward to having a representative at every LCMS District convention this year!

A new Lenten sermon series, “You Meant It for Ev

A new Lenten sermon series, “You Meant It for Evil, but God Meant It for Good,” exploring the uniqueness of Luke’s account of Jesus’ suffering, death and resurrection is now available from Concordia Seminary Press, the publishing arm of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis.

The downloadable resource is designed to aid pastors in their preparations for Lenten midweek services. Professor Emeritus Dr. Jeffrey Gibbs authored the materials.

“Dr. Gibbs has a deep firsthand understanding of the preaching role of the parish pastor,” said Melanie Appelbaum, managing editor of Seminary Publications. “He presents it beautifully in the sermons he wrote for our 11th Lenten sermon series.”

While geared for Lenten midweek services, the series also can be used for Sunday worship during Lent.

Please join us in praying for the loved ones of two dear friends of Concordia Seminary who have been called to be with their Lord – Rev. Ingo Dutzmann and Dr. Timothy Yeadon, both of whom died this past Sunday.

Rev. Dutzmann ('80) was serving as a member of our Alumni Council at the time of his death. The funeral for Rev. Dutzmann is 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, at First Lutheran Church of Boston in Massachusetts. For more information about Rev. Pastors are gathered today in the Presidents Room for the Pre-Lenten Workshop, “You Meant it for Evil, but God Meant it for Good: Sermons based on Luke 22:1-24:12." Dr. Jeffrey Gibbs, professor emeritus, is leading participants through an exploration of the uniqueness of Luke’s account of Jesus' suffering, death and resurrection. Participants will receive nine sermons that can be used or adapted for Ash Wednesday, five midweek services, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday.
