Prof Insights: Faculty-Led Workshop Series – Professor Meyer

Description
Due to concerns about the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, this workshop will be held online.
Studies in 1 Peter: The Importance of Your Congregation to People in Today’s Culture
If you were asked what your favorite book of the Bible is, what would you say? The Gospel of John? Paul’s letters to the Romans or Galatians? All of these are Lutheran favorites. Although 1 Peter would probably not jump to the top of every Christian’s list, it deals with issues central to the Christian life, including the priesthood of all believers, the new birth and the life of a Christian, and the vision of the Christian life as one of holiness lived out in one’s vocation. Peter addresses these issues in the context of Christian suffering within an alien culture in order to provide encouragement and hope.

Dr. Dale A. Meyer
Meyer is perhaps best known as the former speaker of “The Lutheran Hour” and president of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis. During these times, he acquired a reputation as one of the best preachers and teachers within The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS). He may be less known for his work as a researcher and scholar of the New Testament, yet he received his Ph.D. in classical languages from Washington University in St. Louis, Mo., and has conducted research in preparation for writing the commentary on 1 Peter as part of Concordia Publishing House’s Concordia Commentary series. This workshop will bring together his research and his engagement with the political culture as a result of the various positions in which he has served.
