Fall workshop explores ‘Justification from Scripture to Sermon’

Pastors, church workers and congregation members are invited to Concordia Seminary, St. Louis’ fall workshop [1], Justification from Scripture to Sermon: A Cross-Disciplinary Study on the Central Doctrine of the Faith, led by Dr. David Maxwell [2], the Louis A. Fincke and Anna B. Shine Professor of Systematic Theology.

The workshop will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 12 at Glory of Christ Lutheran Church [3] in Plymouth, Minn. Registration is $40 per person, which includes workshop materials and lunch. Registration is open through Sept. 23.

“Justification is the foundational doctrine of the Christian church, but it is rarely considered from the perspective of all four theological disciplines simultaneously: systematic, exegetical, historical and practical,” Maxwell said. “This workshop will attempt to bring these disciplines to bear on the doctrine of justification.”

This one-day workshop will explore the doctrine of justification from multiple angles, helping attendees answer such questions as what are the foundations of the doctrine of justification in both the Old and New Testaments and what are the contemporary challenges to justification?
