Throughout the year at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis [1], students receive vicarage assignments and calls to serve congregations of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod [2] (LCMS). Today, four calls and vicarage assignments and were recognized in the Chapel of St. Timothy and St. Titus.

One Residential Alternate Route [3] (RAR) student, LeRoy Raynor, was called to Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Ontario, Ore., in the LCMS Northwest District.

Andrew Perry, Cross-cultural Ministry Center [4] (CMC) student, received a call to Faith Lutheran Church in Las Cruces, N.M., in the LCMS Rocky Mountain District.

Two students received vicarage assignments: Master of Divinity [5] (M.Div.) student Rako Zech to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Clarence Center, N.Y., in the LCMS Eastern District; and Timothy Potthoff, a CMC student, to Hephatha Lutheran Church in Anaheim, Calif., LCMS Pacific Southwest District.

“Today’s assignments and calls offers a glimpse into the variety of students Concordia Seminary prepares for the ministry,” said Director of Placement Dr. Glenn Nielsen [6]. “A RAR student had his vicarage become his first call to a congregation needing a pastor. An M.Div. student is going to a church wanting to reach a growing community, and two CMC students are assigned to congregations doing work with the Hispanic population around the churches. They are different programs and different types of assignments, but all of them are seeking to bring Jesus to people who need Him as Savior.”

The Seminary celebrates assignment services throughout the year for students enrolled in special programs such as RAR, CMC and others. The Seminary’s primary Call Day is held in the spring – set for April 28, 2020 – when the majority of first calls to ministry as well as assignments for vicarage and deaconess internships will be announced.
