2021 Pre-Lenten Workshop explores God’s vast mercy

UPDATED NOV. 19, 2020

God’s mercy has bestowed on His people enormous treasures — true love, true meaning and an everlasting inheritance. This topic is the focus of Concordia Seminary’s 2021 Pre-Lenten Workshop [1], “‘O Love, How Deep, How Broad, How High’: God’s Enormous Mercy,” set for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (CDT) Friday, Jan. 22, online.

The annual Pre-Lenten Workshop is designed for pastors to help them develop their worship resources for Lent. In 2021, the one-day [2] workshop will be hosted by Dr. Thomas Egger [3], the Gustav and Sophie Butterbach Professor of Exegetical Theology and chairman of the Seminary’s Department of Exegetical Theology.

Registration [4] is $40, and includes complimentary access to Egger’s Lenten sermon series. The registration deadline is Jan. 8.

“I’m looking forward to interacting with pastors at this workshop as they prepare for their Lenten preaching this spring,” Egger said. “Our culture has turned God’s love and mercy into a vague cliché. But this sermon series takes the occasion of the Lenten season to reflect on God’s mercy in rich, concrete, biblical terms, in its Christ-centered depths and heights and breadths. Before the busy season of Lent begins, this workshop gives pastors an overview of the sermon series and a chance to learn together — from me and from one another.”
