Pre-Lenten Workshop 2016
Concordia Seminary, St. Louis will offer a one-day pre-Lenten workshop for pastors Friday, Jan. 15, 2016, on “The Book of Job: Blessed be the Name of the Lord!” with Dr. Reed Lessing, senior pastor of St. Michael Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne, Ind., and former professor of exegetical theology at Concordia Seminary.
Pastors will gather from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. in Koburg Hall on the Seminary campus. Registration is $50 and includes materials and lunch. The registration deadline is Jan. 4.
One of the Bible’s greatest wisdom books is the book of Job. This Lent, explore this magnificent composition that is numbered among some of the greatest literature of all time. Nine sermons will dig deeply into Job’s central message and supporting truths, while six Sunday morning adult Bible classes will further address the book’s major topics and themes. We all suffer — personally and privately. We also suffer in more public ways. A husband loses a job. A child gets divorced. A parent dies. And now, thanks to the media, we are able to see and experience more and more of the world’s catastrophes and suffering. We need the book of Job, now, more than ever.
The Pre-Lenten Workshop will include sermon manuscripts, textual notes, orders of service for midweek services and also suggestions for the Sundays of Lent to help pastors in developing their own worship resources.
