Concordia Seminary Invites High School Students to "Taste of the Sem"

The third annual visitation event called “Taste of the Sem” will take place Jan. 15-17, 2005, on the campus of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis. The event is designed to allow young men in high school the opportunity to experience Seminary life with the help of current Concordia Seminary students. The event begins on Saturday evening, Jan. 15, and ends at lunch on Monday, Jan. 17.

Bible study, prayer and discussions concerning the Office of the Holy Ministry are featured activities at this event. Participants will be matched one-to-one with Seminary students and will accompany these students to their resident field education congregations on Sunday morning and to classes and chapel service on Monday morning. High school participants also will be given a tour of the campus and the opportunity for dinner and discussion with Seminary faculty members.

“Many young men in high school are thinking seriously about serving our Lord in the pastoral ministry, but they have a lot of questions,” commented Rev. Glen Thomas, vice president for seminary relations at Concordia Seminary. “The opportunity to shadow a Concordia Seminary student for two days will provide these young men with many answers to their questions and also should give them a great deal of encouragement.”

There is no cost for the weekend. All meals and lodging will be provided free of charge. Transportation between the airport, train station, bus station and the Seminary campus also will be provided. Registration is limited to 38 participants and will take place on a first-received, first-registered basis. No registration is complete until the participant has received a confirmation letter from the Seminary. Those who wish to register are urged not to make travel arrangements until after receiving a confirmation letter. Participants are responsible for their own transportation costs.
