Concordia Seminary Offers Epiphany Celebration

Concordia Seminary, St. Louis will hold its annual Epiphany Celebration on Sunday, Jan. 8, 2006, at 3:00 p.m. in The Chapel of St. Timothy and St. Titus. Participating in the celebration will be several vocal and instrumental groups from the Concordia Seminary community, including the Concordia Seminary Chorus, Pro Musica Sacra, Laudamus, Brass Choir and String Ensemble. The celebration will include an extended choral prelude of Christmas and Epiphany themes and a service of evening prayer.

Concordia Seminary Chorus commissioned Professor Jonathan Kohrs from Concordia University, River Forest, Ill., to write a setting of a text from Ephesians 5 concerning light, and Dr. John Eggert from Concordia University, St. Paul, Minn., to write a setting of the hymn text “No Saint on Earth Lives to Self Atone.” Rev. Henry Gerike, director of choirs at Concordia Seminary, will direct these two new compositions for chorus and viola, which will premiere at the celebration. Hymns and psalm settings involving the congregation will accompany the carol throughout the service.

Special recognition will be given to pastors and church musicians from Lutheran churches in the St. Louis area. Concordia Seminary desires to express its appreciation for their work of proclaiming God’s Word and leading God’s people in worship and song.
