Concordia Seminary Offers Epiphany Celebration

Concordia Seminary will hold its annual Epiphany Celebration on Sunday, Jan.13, 2008, at 3:00 p.m. in The Chapel of St. Timothy and St. Titus. Participating in the celebration will be several vocal and instrumental groups from the Concordia Seminary community, including the Concordia Seminary Chorus, Pro Musica Sacra and Brass Choir. The celebration will include a musical review of Advent and Christmas and a service of evening prayer.

The Epiphany Celebration will be the premier of a new setting of “Unto Us A Son Is Born” by Seminary Chorus director, Rev. Henry V. Gerike. Included in the musical review of Advent and Christmas are settings of “Too Much Light for Midnight,” a new carol by Alfred Fedak; “O Holy Child” by Michael Cox; “Mary Was Visited” by Franz Biebl; and “Gentle Stranger” by Henry Gerike.

Evening prayer will focus on the Epiphany of our Lord with Egil Hovland’s “Stay with Us”; Donald Busarow’s setting for choir and congregation, “O Morning Star, How Fair and Bright”; Mark Sedio’s new tune and setting for “Angels from the Realms of Glory”; and John Gardner’s “Tomorrow Shall Be My Dancing Day.”

At a reception following the Epiphany Celebration, Concordia Seminary Chorus will officially release and premier its 11th recording, “Safe in God’s Faithfulness.” The CD will premier two works written especially for the Chorus: “Shine in Our Hearts” by Jonathan Kohrs, music professor at Concordia University Chicago, and “No Saint on Earth Lives Life Alone” by John Eggert, music professor at Concordia University, St. Paul, Minn.

Special recognition will be given to pastors and church musicians from Lutheran churches in the St. Louis area. Concordia Seminary desires to express its appreciation for their work of proclaiming God’s Word and leading God’s people in worship and song.
