Concordia Journal Garners Awards

The Associated Church Press (ACP) announced the winners of the 2011 Best of the Christian Press Awards at its conference in Chicago, Ill., on May 2. Concordia Journal, Concordia Seminary’s quarterly theological publication, is an official member of ACP and it won two awards this year:

 

Award of Merit (2nd place) — Best in Class: Journal

Concordia Journal, Travis J. Scholl, editor; William W. Schumacher, executive editor; Dale A. Meyer (President, Concordia Seminary), publisher; Melanie Appelbaum, editorial assistant; Jayna Rollings, graphic designer

 

Honorable Mention — Theological Reflection: Long-Format

Concordia Journal for “The Tapestry of Preaching” by David R. Schmitt, writer; Travis Scholl, editor; Melanie Appelbaum, editorial assistant

 

“We are honored by this recognition, but it’s not the first,” commented Dr. Dale A. Meyer, president of Concordia Seminary. “Many theologically-minded people are increasingly recognizing the Concordia Journal’s depth with practical relevance. We’re eagerly working on future issues!”

Issued quarterly by the faculty of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Missouri, the Concordia Journal is the successor of Lehre und Wehre (1855-1929), begun by C. F. W. Walther, a founder of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. Lehre und Wehre was absorbed by the Concordia Theological Monthly (1930-1972) which was also published by the faculty of Concordia Seminary as the official theological periodical of the Synod.
