The Catechism Drafting Committee led by Dr. Chuck Arand, the Seminary’s dean of theological research and publication, met in Wittenberg, Germany, Oct. 5-8, to consider the many responses and suggestions it has received over the past few months regarding the draft that was mailed in July. The committee is overseeing updates to Luther’s Small Catechism with Explanation, per the 2013 LCMS convention.

Arand said the committee made a number of changes and improvements to the text, then began work on the supplemental materials to be included with the text. He noted that the group made great progress and are on target for the project to be completed in the next few months.

The committee members include Dr. Joel Lehenbauer, Rev. Larry Vogel, Rev. Wally Arp, Dr. Jan Lohmeyer, Rev. Tom Egger, Rev. John Pless and Arand. The committee’s meetings were held in the Old Latin School, located next to the church where Martin Luther frequently preached.
