Dear Alums

Dear alums,

You can sense the energy picking up on campus. A new year beginning, new students arriving, semesters, the 500th day on Oct. 31 and … the Great American Eclipse! That heavenly show gave us an occasion to come together, look up and stand in awe of the Creator. Surveys show one reason young people walk away from church is because they believe Christians are anti-science. If we reduce faith and science to only the debate between creation and evolution, we easily rob ourselves and our people of awe at creation and creation’s God. “Lift up your eyes on high and see: who created these?” (Is. 40:26).

Associating with our professors as I do, and as you can by accessing Seminary resources, we can’t help but learn. From the witness of so much scientific study that affirms truths of faith to more traditional theological topics our professors present, it’s available to help us all in life and ministry. As you gear up for your new season of activity, continue to look up, learn and be blessed by the “Light from above.”

“All creation joins to praise You; Earth and sky Your works display.
Art and music, gifts You lend us, we return to You today.
Alleluia! Alleluia! God, Creator, source of life.”
(Lutheran Service Book, 795, 2)
