Dear alumni

On the Day of Pentecost, our risen Lord sent forth the Holy Spirit to His church. The Spirit leads and guides people to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ through the Word of God (John 20:31; Rom. 10:17; 2 Tim. 3:16). During the time of Pentecost, the church meditates on the Scriptures, seeking instruction as we live in the reality of Christ’s death and resurrection. Jesus told His disciples that the Spirit would guide them into all truth, just as Jesus had taught them (John 16:13). The church gathers around the Apostles’ teaching (Acts 2:42; Eph. 2:20). Throughout this summer, let us all continue to hear and read God’s Holy Word.

Let us never grow tired or weary of God’s Word. Let us never grow weary of sharing this Word with others. May His Word provide the content of our meditation. May His Word teach us true wisdom. May His Word instruct us in how we live. Most importantly, may God’s Word increase our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, that we would rejoice fully in the Good News of the forgiveness of our sins and the hope of everlasting life.

“Come, holy Light, guide divine, Now cause the Word of life to shine.
Teach us to know our God aright And call Him Father with delight.
From every error keep us free; Let none but Christ our master be
That we in living faith abide. In Him, our Lord, with all our might confide.
Alleluia, alleluia!” (LSB, 497 st. 2)

Come, holy Light, guide divine — and fix our eyes on Jesus.

In Christ’s love,

Thomas J. Egger
