Dcs. Dr. Gillian M. Bond

Director of Deaconess Studies, Deaconess Studies

Dr. Gillian Bond is director of Deaconess Studies at Concordia Seminary.

Bond has overseen the deaconess program since 2013. Before joining the Seminary staff, she served as a deaconess for an Illinois church in a dual role combining service primarily to the congregation with chaplaincy work at a nearby Lutheran senior community. She earned her master’s degree in religion and deaconess certification from Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Ind., and is currently pursuing her Ph.D. at Concordia Seminary.

Serving as a deaconess is a second career for Bond, who earned her Ph.D. in materials science and engineering at the University of Bath, England. She previously was a professor and chair of the Materials and Metallurgical Engineering Department at New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology in Socorro, N.M.

She enjoys playing bridge and traveling, especially to visit her son and his family in Oklahoma.
