Seminary’s new 2022-26 strategic plan notes ‘moment in history’
Four priorities focus on mission, needs of the church
After a year of gathering input and planning, the Board of Regents approved a new five-year strategic plan Nov. 3 that reflects upon, articulates and rededicates Concordia Seminary’s identity, mission and vision for continued growth and success in serving its students, donors, alumni and the congregations of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod and partners around the globe.
“I am grateful for all the voices and hands that contributed to developing this five-year plan. We are invigorated by its crucial commitments and initiatives,” said Dr. Thomas J. Egger, president of Concordia Seminary. “The Lord’s faithfulness and promises never change, and our core mission as a seminary of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod does not change. The plan we’ve adopted takes note of our moment in history and the changing circumstances around us and seeks to make the most of the opportunities the Lord is giving us to serve the church and Christ’s mission.”
The plan includes four areas of special focus:
Priority 1: Faithful and full-person formation
This priority places an emphasis on the centrality of daily chapel worship, ministerial formation and the intentional cultivation of future faculty.
Priority 2: Commitment to community and collaboration
This priority focuses on the importance of fostering community and hospitality, and emphasizes collaboration with sister seminary, Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Ind., and with the Synod and its various agencies.
Priority 3: Strong recruitment and enrollment
This priority focuses on the importance of prayer, increased enrollment and a “well-prepared ministerium from ‘all nations.’”
Priority 4: Lutheran resources and reach
This priority emphasizes a comprehensive continuing education strategy and quality Lutheran theological resources, and also focuses on furthering the Seminary’s Lutheran reach and worldwide impact.
“We pray for God’s continued guidance, grace and blessing as we carry out the tasks He has placed before us, to the glory of His Son and for the comfort of troubled sinners,” the plan’s preamble states.
